Weekly Snaps
21 March 2025
Photography has always played an important role on Britannia. While she was in service, there was always a 'Yottie' appointed, nicknamed 'Snaps', to take photographs of life aboard the Royal Yacht.
In keeping with this tradition, we now have our own Photographer in Residence, Ruth McQuiggan, who has been capturing our very own Weekly 'Snaps' - a collection of snapshots of life around the ship today.

Agnes, Visitor Assistant, delights in greeting guests to The Royal Yacht Britannia and sharing fascinating tales of Royal life at sea.

Enjoy exploring the areas across the five decks of the Royal Yacht that were used by the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen with our complimentary audio guide.

Renata, Housekeeper, polishing items in the Silver Pantry. During service, every single item had to be polished daily.

Guests to the Royal Deck Tearoom treat themselves to a bottle of Champagne, celebrating a special occasion during their day aboard.

A delicious selection of sandwiches, including mature cheddar, spring onion mayo and Arran chutney, awaits guests to the Tearoom. Why not pair it with a bowl of warming soup, made in the onboard Galley?

An experience to remember, taking tea in the Royal Deck Tearoom, where a tea to suit all tastes can be found. Ask a member of our waiting team for their recommendation!

In the Galley, lemon cheesecakes are being prepared to be served to guests at an exclusive evening event.

The Minton and Spode china for the Royal Dining Room was stored in the China and Glass Pantry. Each item has its own uniquely designed compartment, hook, or rack.

With over 240 Officers and Yachtsmen and numerous daily uniform changes, the onboard Laundry was an extremely busy and hot place to work. Britannia's large Laundry was unique in the Royal Navy, partly due to her potential role as a hospital ship.

The Gift Shop's fine bone china Admiral's Collection is inspired by the gold rings insignia worn on the cuffs by Admirals in the Royal Navy.

Stop by the NAAFI on your tour to try some of the moreish fudge made by our onboard confectioner, Poppy. Originally, it was stocked with items that the Officers, Yachtsmen, and even sometimes members of the Royal Family would require while at sea, such as toiletries and sweets.

This stunning vibrant work of art, the heritage beetroot salad with goats’ cheese curd and beetroot caviar, is the perfect dish to start your dining experience in The Lighthouse Restaurant.
